Ulaanbaatar, July 2, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Mongolia hosts the Executive Council Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Postal Union (APPU), from June 30 to July 5, 2025.
APPU is a regional branch of the Universal Postal Union
(UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations, and has 32 member countries.
The 2025 APPU Executive Council Meeting is jointly organized by the
Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation
and Communications of Mongolia, the Communications Regulatory Commission, and Mongol Post JSC with the participation of more than 100
representatives from 50 countries’ regional postal organizations, relevant ministries, and regulatory organizations in person and online. The Executive Council is discussing ways to improve the coordination of postal
services, introduce advanced standards and technologies, implement development
programs, increase technical capacity,
and strengthen cooperation. APPU
Executive Council Meeting was held in anticipation of the UPU Congress to be held in the United Arab Emirates this September.
"The Congress in September will
determine the global postal sector's plan for
the next four years," said Chief Executive Officer of Mongol Post JSC Telmen Gerelt. "The Asia-Pacific
region alone accounts for 70 percent of the postal market. The postal sector is
facing new challenges. During this regional
meeting, we
are discussing what role postal organizations should play in a modern era when traditional mail communication has ceased
to function, and how to introduce innovations that are emerging. Mongolia is ranked 66th out of 192 countries
according to the Universal Postal Union. This is neither good nor bad. The
government does not pay much attention to the postal sector. We are holding
this meeting to make people understand why the postal sector is important. We
are also meeting with government officials and policymakers."
Ms. Bhavna
Patel from Australia
Post said, “This meeting focuses on how to improve our postal system in the
region and how to operate in an environmentally friendly way. Customer
satisfaction is crucial to our postal service.
We want to serve people, understanding what they like and need. We have introduced a system where the customer can see where his/her postal packet is going. As Australia is a large country, in the past few years we
have been working to improve our postal service and keep up with the times.”
At the 2025 APPU Executive Council Meeting, the participants are also discussing strategies for expanding cooperation in the postal and logistics sector, cross-border delivery solutions aligned with the growth of e-commerce, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, automation, green postal policies, sustainable development, human resources, and capacity building.
