Symposium discusses challenging issues of villages

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A symposium themed ‘Challenging Issues of Cities and Villages’ held in Tunkhel village, Mandal soum of Selenge aimag.
It was published on Monday in the Cabinet's website.
Suggestions and proposals made during the symposium will be conjoined to draft Amendment to the Constitution of Mongolia, a document being formulated by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on State Structure.
Presentations under themes such as ‘Administrative System and Challenging Issues of Cities and Villages’ by P.Zorigtbaatar, senior official at the Cabinet Secretariat, ‘Current State and Challenging Issues of Cities and Villages’ by J.Ganbold, Governor of Dulaankhan village, Shaamar soum, Selenge aimag and ‘Villages in Districts’ by S.Enkhjargal, specialist at the Capital City Mayor’s Office were delivered at the symposium, organized by the Division of Municipal Administration and Coordination of the Cabinet Secretariat.
There are 18 villages in Mongolia, six of which are situated in Selenge aimag. During the symposium, village Governors spoke about difficulties in rendering government services to the citizens. Local officials also touched upon their challenges such as limited participation of village citizens in local governance due to uncertainty of village status in the corresponding law and conflict between Law on the Legal Status of Cities and Villages and Law on Administrative and Territorial Units of Mongolia and Their Governance.
The symposium was attended by officials from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on State Structure, the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs, the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development, Governor’s Office of Selenge aimag, village governors and representatives of projects Decentralization Policy Support and Strengthening of Representative Bodies.
