Acting Health Minister A.Tsogtsetseg meets WHO Regional Director

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolia aims to eradicate Hepatitis C by 2020, said Acting Minister of Health A.Tsogtsetseg on September 26.

The Acting Minister met Tuesday with the World Health Organization’s Regional Director for Western Pacific Shin Young-soo who is visiting Mongolia on September 25-27. Shin Young-soo has come to Mongolia after seven years.

In the beginning of the meeting, Acting Minister A.Tsogtsetseg appreciated the WHO’s support rendered to Mongolia, expressing the Government’s objective to elevate the healthcare system to standards of a developed country. “Mongolia is taking concrete steps towards achieving the objectives set in the Sustainable Development Vision 2030,” she said, citing the drafting of a new Law on Medical Care and Service Risk Insurance.

The Acting Minister touched upon the ‘Whole Liver - Mongolia’ national program which has reached about 40 percent of citizens aged 40-65, and said that Mongolia intends to become Hepatitis C-free by 2020, a goal which the WHO Regional Director expressed willingness to support. Mr. Shing Young-soo also remarked on the comparatively high progress of the ‘Whole Liver - Mongolia’ national program.
