Nat’l program to be implemented on protecting consumers’ rights

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The cabinet meeting on Monday obliged the Deputy Prime Minister Ts.Oyunbaatar to work out and implement a national program on protecting consumers’ rights as 2016 has been announced the year for consumers.

Main factor of designing the program was the increasing number of violations in consumers’ rights due to a rapid growth of the economic and business activities.

The program to be carried out between 2016 and 2020, aims to build a legal landscape and adequate system for protecting rights of every Mongolian as a consumer, to promote social responsibilities of suppliers of different products, works and services and to enhance public awareness of smart consumer culture. It also provides for 20 measures and actions under the main goals to refine upon the legal environment favoring consumers rights, protect from risks, improve standards and impart proper knowledge.

The Deputy Prime Minister was ordered to approve an action plan for the program and to report on the process to the cabinet every first quarter of the year. The same task was given to the UB Mayor and governors of aimags who have to deliver reports to the Authority for Fair Competitiveness and Consumers.
