New Archaeology and Ethnography Museum to Open Next Year

Ulaanbaatar, April 10, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Construction of the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography is underway in Zuunmod, Tuv aimag, commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth, with completion targeted for next year.
The museum will
meet international standards and include conservation and research
laboratories. Once operational, it is expected to improve the environment for
archaeological, paleontological, and ethnographic research, while creating an
open, multi-functional space for education and public engagement and
contributing to local development.
President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa visited the site on April 9, 2026, to review construction progress. During the visit, project co-lead and Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, Chuluun Sampildondov, said the decision to establish the museum was first made when President Khurelsukh served as prime minister. He noted that the museum will include internationally compliant laboratories, a children’s museum and a library, and will serve as a comprehensive center for the study, conservation and promotion of both tangible and intangible heritage, with potential to support historical tourism.
Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth Aldarjavkhlan Jukov., Member of Parliament Batjargal Jigjid, and Director of the Construction Development Center Munkhbaatar D., along with other officials, discussed construction progress, engineering infrastructure, interior and exterior works, and measures to address outstanding issues going forward.
The museum is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of next year.
