Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ At its regular meeting on July 7, the Cabinet heard a report on the COVID-19 situation and response efforts. As of June 7, 30,299 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in 20 aimags and of the 7,476 patients receiving treatment at hospitals and in isolation, 6,402 were in mild, 869 in serious, 170 in critical, and 35 in very critical condition.

Due to the spread of COVID-19 and the increase in hospital workloads, restrictions have been put in place in 196 soums and six villages of 18 aimags. 101 soums of 13 aimags will lift their lockdowns before Naadam holiday that falls between July 9 and 19. Moreover, recreational visits to rural areas are expected to increase as summer continues.

The Cabinet decided that lockdowns would continue in rural areas with key border checkpoints for imports and exports and movements would remain restricted until checkpoints return to normal operations; aimags would impose restrictions and lockdowns after discussing with the State Emergency Commission (SEC); citizens would be allowed to visit tourist camps and resorts during their rural trips, but to call on rural families or drive in traffic in town; people who have been fully vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 would be allowed to travel to rural areas and one child aged over five years old in the family that is traveling would be tested for COVID-19 with a rapid test; and that the Emergency Commission of the capital city would remain responsible for phased reopening of businesses and ensure that they are not open past 10 PM.
