Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav: Maternal and Child Health Will be a Top Priority
Politics
Ulaanbaatar, August 13, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Prime
Minister of Mongolia Zandanshatar Gombojav visited the National Center for
Maternal and Child Health of Mongolia on August 12, 2025.
Children
make up over one-third of Mongolia’s population, and to serve such a large
pediatric population, medical specialists at the National Center for Maternal
and Child Health are working under a heavy workload. Consequently, the
Emergency Department of the Center provides care to 8,000 to 10,000
children each month.
It has
been 38 years since Mongolia’s only specialized outpatient clinic for children was
established. Approximately 1,200 children receive care daily at the 1,100 square-meter
outpatient clinic. If each child is accompanied by one to two guardians, the
total number of people served by the clinic alone reaches around 3,500 per day.
The construction
of the new building, aimed at reducing the outpatient clinic’s workload, has
been completed and officially accepted by the State Commission. Efforts are now
underway to bring the faculty into full operation next month. The new
outpatient clinic building is eight times larger than the previous facility.
This expansion is expected to reduce waiting times for examinations by up to five
days and for surgeries by as much as 40 days. The number of rooms will increase
from 34 to 95, and day care services will be introduced. The facility will
feature 33 specialized rooms, and 37 types of diagnostic procedures and tests
will be available. Additionally, five dedicated day-surgery rooms will be
included.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav will review current restrictions on funding for the treatment of chronic childhood diseases and is expected to address the issue of financing in a more child-friendly and inclusive manner in the near future.
