Ulaanbaatar, November 20, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The 9th Meeting of the Mongolia-Republic of Korea Joint Committee convened in Ulaanbaatar on November 19, 2025. The meeting was co-chaired by Byambatsogt Sandag, Minister of Mongolia and Chief of the Cabinet Secretariat, and Kim Jina, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, with officials from the two governments and relevant agencies in attendance.
Both sides reaffirmed the growing depth of bilateral relations under the Strategic Partnership framework, highlighting the increasing frequency of high-level exchanges and the committee’s role in advancing substantive and sectoral cooperation.
A key focus of the session was advancing the Mongolia-Korea Economic Partnership Agreement, aimed at boosting trade and investment flows, expanding market access for businesses, and deepening overall economic integration. Mongolia emphasized its potential to export eco-friendly livestock products – including wool, cashmere, leather, and meat – by leveraging its 80 million head of livestock, 20-30 million of which are economically viable annually. The parties also underscored the need to explore tax incentives for these exports under the agreement.
The Mongolian and Korean sides underscored that projects, including the Ulaanbaatar Green Affordable Housing and Resilient Urban Renewal Sector Project and the proposed Mongolia-Korea Joint Research Center for Rare Metals, will make significant contributions to expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation. The two sides also agreed to collaborate on the phased implementation of national industrial projects in steel and copper production, aligned with Mongolia’s long-term development strategy, and to attract Korean investment and advanced technologies.
Ongoing infrastructure projects supported by concessional financing from Korea – such as the Heating System Improvement of 10 Province Centers, Solongo 1 and 2, and Bayangolyn Am affordable housing projects – were reviewed, with both sides committing to their timely and effective delivery.
The session also addressed consular cooperation, with discussions on easing visa procedures for Mongolian citizens, particularly for medical travel, and advancing toward mutual visa exemptions.
At the multilateral level, Korea reaffirmed its support for Mongolia’s Ulaanbaatar Dialogue initiative and expressed its willingness to share experience from hosting previous Conferences of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), as well as to provide technical and logistical support for COP 17, which Mongolia is scheduled to host in 2026.
The parties agreed to hold the 10th Mongolia-Korea Joint Committee Meeting in Seoul.
