PM gives orders to health, emergency organizations responding to COVID-19

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On February 1, 2021, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene and Head of State Emergency Commission and Deputy Prime Minister S.Amarsaikhan conducted a site visit to the National Emergency Management Agency, Operative staff of the State Emergency Commission and Emergency Commission of Ulaanbaatar city to get acquainted with the activities of the organizations and hear timely update surrounding the coronavirus response measures.
During the visit, Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene stressed that the State Emergency Commission had been charged with orders to renew its general plan to combat against COVID-19, containing science-based comprehensive set of measures with main focus given to support the economy, and to present the updated plan to the cabinet discussion.
He further mentioned that the National Emergency Management Agency, Operative staff of the State Emergency Commission, Ministry of Health and Emergency Commission of Ulaanbaatar city are required to improve their correspondence and working style and that more attention should be given to details in implementation of any decisions issued by the government and the State Emergency Commission at the primary level.

During the visit, an experts’ council responsible for providing professional guidance and advice to the health, emergency management and administrative organizations also delivered a presentation of the current state of COVID-19 in Mongolia and spread and surveillance of COVID-19 outbreaks.
As introduced by the council, if restrictive measures are placed for 16 days from February 6, 2021 to February 21, coinciding with the nationwide celebration of the Tsagaan Sar Holiday, which is now officially suspended, a risk of COVID-19 spread among the population can be curbed by more than 90 percent.
If restrictive measures are softened during these days, there will be an increased risk of local transmission of COVID-19 later in March 2021, the study made by the experts’ council concludes.
Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene noted that the experts’ study will be taken under consideration in the government’s upcoming and updated COVID-19 response plan. The State Emergency Commission and the cabinet are expected to review the experts’ suggestion further.
