UNDP Mongolia engages influencers and thought leaders on Building Forward Better
Society
Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. To help facilitate conversations on
two grand challenges that UNDP Mongolia identified in 2020: Dignified Lives and
Rebalanced Economy, UNDP Mongolia is taking a systems approach to doing
development differently. On September 28, UNDP Mongolia hosted the
third in a series of Sounding Board meetings with thought leaders and key
influencers in Mongolia- hearing voices and reflections from
different walks of life.
Participants engaged interactively through Mural to conceptualize Dignified Lives and Rebalanced Economy and provide their ideas how to achieve these objectives in the context of the country. At this third Sounding Board meeting, participants also selected priority actions to achieve Dignified Lives and a Rebalanced Economy in Mongolia.
The discussion was especially important and timely as the COVID-19 pandemic threatens to reverse decades of progress and is stressing current systems. Developing countries are most at risk during and after this pandemic, not only due to the impact on health but also due to the social and economic impact, especially for vulnerable groups.
Ms. Elaine Conkievich, UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia, highlighted in her opening remarks that: “The new future is still uncertain and emerging. Nevertheless, the solutions and answers we facilitate for Mongolia should further strengthen dignified lives, rebalance the economy and overall support structural transformation, to leave no one - no woman, no girl, no man, no boy - behind, while building resilience to deal with future, even unknown challenges, that undoubtedly, we will be faced with.“
As UNDP Mongolia moves to develop its new Country Programme Document for 2023-2027, in line with the newly endorsed UNDP global Strategic Plan, UNDP will be enabling change through 1) Structural transformation, particularly green, inclusive and digital transitions; 2) Leaving no one behind, a rights-based approach centred on human agency and human development; and 3) Building resilience to respond to systemic uncertainty and risk.
UNDP Mongolia strives to integrate the ideas and inspirations from the meeting into its new Country Programme Document for the period 2023-2027.
