‘Countering illegal mining: Challenges and Solutions’ discussion held

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. Countering illegal mining: Challenges
and Solutions’ stakeholder discussion was organized on August 27, 2021 as part
of the Asia Foundations ‘Building Capacity to Counter Illegal Mining’ project.
At the event, state central administrative bodies of the
sector and other relevant government organizations provided information on
general sector policy and data information and future action plan for various
project’s objectives were widely discussed.
At the stakeholder discussion the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the Ecology Police, and the Specialized Inspection Agency delivered presentations based on their respective fields. Specifically, the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry presented on the topic of ‘Mining sector policy, mineral exploration and mining licensing of natural resources, and current mining situation’, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism on ‘Resolving environmental damage caused by mining activities’, the Ecology Police on ‘Environmental crimes related to mining activities and issues facing when detecting and resolving the crimes’ and the Specialized Inspection Agency on ‘Issues faced when resolving conflicts of professional activity during mining operations’.
Furthermore, around 90
representatives of Independent Authority Against Corruption, provincial and
capital General Prosecutors Office, Judicial General Council, National
Institute of Forensic Science and the University of Internal Affairs have
attended the event via in-person or online and participated in the discussion
and information sharing process.
