Foreign Minister meets outgoing UNICEF Representative in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On July 5, Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg had a meeting with Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Mongolia Alex Heikens.
Minister B.Battsetseg expressed gratitude for UNICEF’s support and cooperation in the achievement of national social and economic goals, especially the implementation of the government’s policy on child protection. The Minister also underlined that UNICEF’s efforts to vaccinate the public during the pandemic, establish a new vaccines central storage at the National Center for Communicable Diseases, and install cold chain equipment, were of great significance in strengthening the prevention and response capacity of Mongolia’s health care sector.
Mr. Alex Heikens said increased focus was given to reducing the negative impact of the pandemic and combating child abuse in the last two years aside from the implementation of UNICEF country program.
At the end of the meeting, Minister B.Battsetseg presented a Golden Gerege souvenir to the outgoing Country Representative, wishing success in his future endeavors.
Mr. Alex Heikens was appointed as the Representative of the UNICEF Mongolia Country Office in 2017. He has now been appointed as UNICEF’s Representative for Azerbaijan.
