Labor Minister holds meeting with Chinese Ambassador

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On August 10, Minister of Labor and Social Protection A.Ariunzaya received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Mongolia Chai Wenrui.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on poverty rate in Mongolia and ways to reduce it, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and social insurance and welfare services being offered to citizens living in the two countries.
Ambassador Chai Wenrui highlighted the importance of expanding partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection in bilateral relations, and especially in socio-economic matters.
Noting that China is successfully implementing measures on poverty reduction, Minister A.Ariunzaya underlined the necessity to reduce poverty in Mongolia by introducing good practices. She said, “The core method to fight against poverty is by means of providing education, health, and employment. In order to prepare a sufficient amount of professional workforce, it is currently necessary to change the public opinion towards TVET. Partnership is significant in various works such as providing welfare to target group and having citizens be employed.”
In recent years, the Chinese government is implementing a wide range of measures in the social protection sector to reduce poverty. As a result of step-by-step measures taken against the issue, the number of Chinese citizens in poverty lowered to over 10 million as of this year.
The Ambassador said, “It is important to help the citizens have the ambition to do labor and live a great life. If the person in question does not wish to do so, it is impossible for them to stop living in poverty no matter how much welfare they receive.” In correlation with this matter, he expressed that partnership is possible in organizing training on reducing poverty.
As there is a certain amount of people directly benefiting from the trade and economic partnership between the two countries, the two sides also exchanged views on the citizens’ social insurance and welfare, and came to the decision to cooperate on the matter, reports the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.
