Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On October 6, freestyle wrestler D.Otgonjargal won the bronze medal from the women’s 50 kg weight class at the World Wrestling Championships taking place in Oslo, Norway. It is her first time competing at the world championship tournament.

For the bronze medal match, she faced off against Emilia Vuc of Romania who previously won the silver medal at the world championships in 2017 and 2019. Despite lacking experience compared to her opponent, Otgonjargal was able to win by technical superiority with a score of 10:0.

In the quarterfinals, she was defeated by Remina Yoshimoto of Japan, who went on to grab the gold medal in the weight class. At the repechage round, the Mongolian athlete went up against Natallia Varakina of Belarus, and came out victorious by pinning down her opponent in the first round of the match.

With strong, decisive movements in all her matchups, Otgonjargal has become the first Mongolian wrestling athlete to win a medal from the lightest weight class at the world championships.
