Labor Minister attends 65th session of Commission on Status of Women

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Labor and Social Development A.Ariunzaya took part in ministerial roundtables and general debates of the 65th virtual session of the Commission on the Status of Women,a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women, held on March 15 to 26.
The Minister presented some of the government’s measures, emphasizing that the number of women in high ranking positions has been increased through legal improvement aimed at ensuring women’s participation in decision-making and the adoption of electoral gender quotas.
One of the highlights of the session was that Mongolia made a voluntary report on women’s empowerment and sustainable development on March 23. Minister A.Ariunzaya presented the report on behalf of the government of Mongolia, saying, “As a country that fully supports actions designed to ensure observance of international human rights standards and principles, Mongolia has been ratifying international agreements and treaties on women’s rights and gender equality and making legal improvements in compliance with them.” Noting the achievements made in improving the legal framework as well as the efforts aimed at the implementation of the improvements, the Minister said that ministries and local departments are implementing subprograms to ensure gender equality and necessary budget allocations and institutional capacity building efforts are underway.
