MP Yo.Baatarbileg meets WHO delegation

Committee on Social Policy, Education, Culture and Science and head of the lobby
group against tuberculosis in the parliament, Yo.Baatarbileg today, met with a
delegation headed by World Health Organization (WHO) Resident Representative in
Mongolia, Sergey Diorditsa, Coordinator at Tuberculosis and Leprosy Elimination
Unit of WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific, Tauhid Islam and WHO specialist
in Geneva, Nobuyuki Nishikiori.
At the meeting, the delegation thanked Mongolia for being
highly concerned with tuberculosis and special attention of its Parliament and
Prime Minister as well as establishing a lobby group against the disease and
expressed hope the group will be active further and work on addressing pressing
issues. They also highlighted the importance of increasing participation of not
only the health sector, but also other sectors in combating tuberculosis, creating
a document regarding cross-sector responsibility and formulating an action
plan.
MP Baatarbileg noted that a goal is set to have a
tuberculosis hospital in 2020-2021 and the Parliament, the Government, as well
as the lobby group have been attentive towards improving legal climate
regarding the disease. Moreover, the MP’s proposal made during the meeting to establish
a Memorandum of Cooperation on tuberculosis was agreed by the WHO side.
