Neonatal intensive care unit fully renovated

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On August 1, the Unit of Postoperative Care of Neonates at the National Maternal and Child Health Center (NMCHC) opens its door after having newly renovated thanks to a project ‘Save Life’ implemented by JCI Mongolia. At the third stage of the project, JCI Mongolia made expansion and improvement with MNT 120 million.
JCI Mongolia has been implementing the project since 2015 in cooperation with NMCHC. At the first stage of the project, the Neonatal intensive care unit of the National Center which had no renovation since 1987, was fully renovated and equipped. As a result of it, infant mortality rate was reduced to 5.6 percent from 19.1 percent.
Whereas, at the second stage of the project, complete surgical equipment for infant were donated and a special surgical room was established. Consequently, recovery after surgery improved to 82.2 percent or by 10 percent which was 72.2 percent before.

"Some 1000 children undergo treatment annually at this unit. Ensuring disinfection and safe environment is cruical protecting patients’ health. Infants' illness especially, number of premature birth and low birthweight is increasing in recent years. We are thankful to community of JCI Mongolia for the renovation of the Neonatal intensive care unit," Director of NMCHC Sh.Enkhtur said.
