Chinese students getting familiar with Mongolian lifestyle

Khovd /MONTSAME/ Khovd University is running 2018 International summer course on Mongolian language, culture and ethnology with the aim of deepening cooperation with Chinese universities and colleges, internationally spreading Mongolian language and culture, promoting lifestyle, culture and customs of nomads to foreigners. The course is taking place from July 24 to August 8.

Five teachers and 40 students from Chinese universities including Northwest University for Nationalities and Qinghai University for Nationalities are participating in this year’s event.

The International summer course is comprised of trainings, discussions, tours, practical works, competitions and conclusive discussion under six themes: ‘Mongolia, the beautiful country’, ‘Mongolian language and culture’, ‘Mongolian traditional customs’, ‘Mongolian traditional games’, ‘Mongolian traditional celebrations’ and ‘Mongolian natural environment’.

Since this year’s event began, the teachers and students have visited historical sites of Khovd aimag including Khar-Us Lake and Gurvan Tsenkher Cave as well as museum and cultural heritage center of the aimag, getting acquainted with history and culture of many ethnic groups.

Also, classroom training of the course started on July 26 and the participants had  lectures on Mongolian language, culture and customs while learning Cyrillic alphabets.

In addition, goat milking, argal or dried dung  collecting, button knot tying and dumpling pinching competitions were organized among the students.
