Minister Ya.Sodbaatar pays visit to the Republic of Korea

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ At the invitation of South Korea’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Ms. Kim Hyun-mi, Minister of Road and Transport Development Ya.Sodbaatar paid a visit to the country to attend groundbreaking ceremony of railway links North and South Korea on December 26. Delegation of Mongolian, Russian and Chinese Transport Ministers and Deputy Ministers and the UN authorities attended the event.
The sides emphasized that the event has opened up big possibility to trigger rail transport to South Korea passing through North Korea as well as to transport freight from South Korea to Europe and it can become one of the largest corridors in route between Asia and Europe. As for Mongolia, it will provide possibility to export its mining products to North and South Korea and to the third countries using sea ports in the two Koreas.
As part of
the visit, Minister Ya.Sodbaatar held bilateral meeting with his Korean
counterpart Ms. Kim Hyun-mi, discussing development issues in bilateral road
and transport sector. Minister
Ya.Sodbaatar expressed his pleasure that Mongolia and Korea to be
connected with rail in addition to air and sea transports.
While stressing that air transport sector has played pivotal role in developing cooperation in the fields of tourism, business, culture, education, economy and investment, the Ministers agreed to broaden cooperation in air transport field, increase number of flights, lower ticket price as well as ensure competitiveness. They also agreed to establish an agreement on air relations in the near future.
Moreover, the South Korean part pledged that they will render support to Mongolia on introducing smart transport system and smart monitoring system in public transport, improving activities of traffic office and introducing payment collection system.
