Parliamentarians receive US Department of State delegates
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Head of the Mongolia-US friendship group in the State Great Khural G.Zandanshatar, and deputies L.Oyun-Erdene and A.Undraa received today a delegation from the US Department of State, led by Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs Susan Thornton.
G.Zandanshatar MP extended gratitude to the US Department of State for implementing effectively projects and programs through the channels of the International Development Association on strengthening good governance and building public service capacity. The development programs were halted in 2012, in consideration of the fact that Mongolia has upgraded its status from underdeveloped to developing country.
Taking into account the current economic recession, he said, the Government wishes to resume the programs to help reduce growing poverty rate and uphold economic growth.
Mr Thornton thanked the parliament members for their time and applauded the excellent operations of the International Institute of Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) in Mongolia.
The sides further discussed the outputs of development programs carried out in Mongolia.
Present was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA, Ms Jennifer Zimdahl Galt.
