In March of this year, ONDO Space, Mongolia's first private space technology company, launched two 0.5U-class satellites from the US to demonstrate and test its Internet of Things (IoT) technological capabilities. Since their launch, the two satellites, named ONDOSAT-OWL-1 and ONDOSAT-OWL-2, have successfully passed all technical tests while operating in orbit at an altitude of 550 km, according to the company's Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Dr. D. Amartuvshin.

As a result, the introduction of animal and vehicle location and status determining devices has begun on a trial basis. The first phase will involve determining the real-time location of livestock in areas without network coverage and providing long-distance transport monitoring services for large vehicles. Initially, these services will be implemented within Mongolia, with plans for future international market expansion.

Having now successfully operated its own satellite system in space or, in other words, having a space proven satellites, ONDO Space has started cooperating with space companies from Japan, the United States, and South Korea by offering their own designed satellite platforms and subsystems, co-launching commercial satellites, and providing ground station services.

Finally, ONDO Space has signed another launch contract with ExoLaunch, a SpaceX rideshare company, to launch 10 more 0.5U satellites in October 2024. They also plan to launch another 20 6U-class IoT satellites to test direct satellite-to-mobile technology in 2025. From 2025 to 2026, ONDO MNO’s cellular users will be able to send and receive messages and make calls from places without terrestrial networks by using ONDO’s satellite network (Direct2Cell). ONDO  Space plans to launch 176 satellites into Low Earth Orbit by 2027.
