Deputy Minister of Construction receives Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S Embassy

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Deputy Minister of Construction and Urban Development B.Munkhbaatar received officials led by Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Mongolia Gregory May and Senior Specialist at the Department of Economy and Trade Michael Richmond on November 6.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister informed Mr. Gregory May about the progress of construction of the new Central Wastewater Treatment Plant being financed with a soft loan from the Chinese government, and the re-planning of ger districts, and expressed interest in learning from the experience of the U.S. in several pressing issues of the sector.
These include establishing and developing satellite cities, improving rural infrastructure, and implementing a model construction project for apartments aside from ger district re-planning.
Furthermore, as the U.S. is experienced in the mortgage market, he told Mr. Gregory May about the necessity to study their experience in the mortgage loan system, conditions, and corresponding rules and regulations as well as urban planning management and implementing mechanisms.
In correlation with the list of old buildings of Ulaanbaatar city and some settlements that need to be demolished and rebuilt, renovated, and strengthening, the sides also discussed involving engineers in training on norms and regulations for construction, planning, and strengthening as there are insufficient regulations on strengthening old and new buildings.
