Breastfeeding: Foundation of Life

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ Mongolia is celebrating the World Breastfeeding Week (WBM), which runs every year on August 1-7 to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world.
This year, WBW is being celebrated in 170 countries under a slogan ‘Breastfeeding: Foundation of Life’ with the following objectives:
- Inform people about the links between good nutrition, food security, poverty reduction and breastfeeding;
- Anchor breastfeeding as the foundation of life;
- Engage with individuals and organizations for greater impact;
- Galvanize action to advance breastfeeding as a part of good nutrition, food security and poverty reduction.
Within the objectives, Mongolia’s Ministry of Health, National Center of Social Health and UNICEF Mongolia are planning to organize measures to improve public awareness on breastfeeding through social media, organize consultation and training for health workers of maternal hospitals and central hospitals of provinces and hold a meeting with importers of baby formula milk and relevant specialists of public organizations on implementation of the Law on Infant and Young Child Nutrition, adopted in 2017.
