Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga issued a decree on awarding Peter Brosens, a film director of Belgium, with the Polar Star Order, which was presented on Wednesday by Z.Enkhbold, Chief of Staff of the Office of the President.

The presidential decree reads, “In high recognition of his contributions to a development of Mongolian film art and promotion of Mongolian history, culture and lifestyle to the world through motion pictures, a citizen of Belgium and film director, Peter Brosens is hereby awarded the Polar Star Order,”

Peter Brosens has made extraordinary contributions to bringing the movie industry of Mongolia into the world stage by creating the contemporary historic trilogy, consisting of City of the Steppes (1993), State of Dogs (1998) and Poets of Mongolia (1999), in collaboration with Mongolian filmmakers. The trilogy has taken parts in about 170 film festivals and received 30 awards.

In 2006, he completed another motion picture named Khadak also in cooperation with Mongolian artists. The film received 60 awards at international film festivals.

Being invited to the Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival as the featured director, Brosens is screening three of his films at the festival.

From the Mongolian side, nearly a hundred actors and film artists along with director D.Turmunkh and S.Byambaa had participated in the making of the above-mentioned films, and Peter Brosens was the person who first paved the way for Mongolian movie industry to attending roughly 200 film festivals and to becoming winner of more than 50 first and runner-up awards including the Golden Lion from the Venice Film Festival. A state prize of Belgium has been conferred to Khadak.

Peter Brosens is one of the leading film directors in Europe, having become laureate of 75 awards at 370 film festivals.
