Mongolia reaches record number of daily COVID-19 cases, 11,651 in total
It was reported at the daily COVID-19 press briefing by the Ministry of Health for April 6, Tuesday, Mongolia has hit the highest daily number of new COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, recording a total of 831 new coronavirus cases as a result of PCR tests conducted at 23 laboratories nationwide.

“Mongolia becomes first Asian country to adopt law protecting human rights defenders”
At its plenary session dated April 1, Parliament of Mongolia, the State Great Khural, adopted a Law on Legal Status of Human Rights Defenders. The law will enter into force on July 1, 2021.

Advancing gender equality in Mongolia’s construction sector
The construction sector is dominated by men, not only in Mongolia but also in countries throughout the world. Even in an advanced economy like the US, women consist of less than 1% of construction workers on the jobsite.  Here at the EU Funded Switch Off Air Pollution Project (SOAP), we’re working to redefine the role of women in the construction sector by working with jobsite team leaders, locally known as brigade leaders, to break outdated gender norms and help them find the best construction workers, regardless of sex. But we’re also training women to join the booming construction sector.

COVID-19 test kit developed by Mongolian scientists put into practice
A new diagnostic kit that detects antibodies against COVID-19 in saliva samples which was developed by Mongolian scientists is being introduced into practice starting from today. The opening ceremony of the event took place today at the Center for Clinical Molecular Diagnosis of Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS).

Mongolia Water Compact enters into force
On March 31, the Government of Mongolia and the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) announced the entry-into-force of the $350 million Mongolia Water Compact designed to sustain economic growth and reduce poverty through the expansion of bulk water supply in Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, and enhancing the long-term financial, institutional, and environmental sustainability of the water sector.

Government opts not to impose strict lockdown, some restrictions in place instead
On March 31, the cabinet convened for a regular meeting and decided not to move the country into the Red Level or the all-out-readiness regime starting from April 3, Saturday, until April 18, Sunday despite the State Emergency Commission has suggested to impose strict lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
