Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. During a working visit to the U.S., Mongolian parliamentary delegation led by Speaker of the State Great Khural G.Zandanshatar held a meeting with members of the U.S. Congressional International Conservation Caucus in Washington, D.C.

During the meeting Speaker G.Zandanshatar said, During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary to pay more attention to environmental issues worldwide and take decisive measures to reduce the negative impacts caused by environmental degradation and adverse weather conditions. Climate change, disruption in ecological balance, and microbial mutations increase the risk of new diseases, transmission from animals to humans, and outbreaks of chronic disease. Environmental protection is a critical issue for Mongolia as our country has pastoral livestock and abundant natural resources. In connection with climate change, policies and objectives are being implemented in order to create a green economic structure, use natural resources more efficiently, and prevent further environmental pollution and degradation. The State Great Khural approved the Green Development Policy in 2014, and set up an environmental protection group. The group, which aims to improve the legal environment to support green growth, monitor compliance and ensure implementation, will monitor the implementation of Mongolia's sustainable development policy.

Members of Parliament S.Ganbaatar and Ts.Tserenpuntsag, who participated in the meeting, expressed their views on issues such as prevention of environmental degradation, remediation, climate change and cooperation between the legislatures in the field of environmental protection.

Afterwards, Speaker G.Zandanshatar met with U.S. National Security Council Coordinator for the Indo-Pacific Dr. Kurt Campbell. During the meeting, their discussion touched on the necessity to make efforts for intensifying the free trade established between two countries and the export of wool and cashmere products, and its realization.
