Ulaanbaatar, October 13, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child on December 19, 2011.

The day is dedicated to raising awareness of the challenges girls face worldwide, advocating for their rights, and promoting their access to education, development opportunities, and empowerment.

To commemorate the occasion, the Mongolian Volunteer Center organized the third annual “Because I Am a Girl” Girls’ Participation Conference in Ulaanbaatar on October 11, 2025. The event brought together 1,000 girls from across the country, who delivered four keynote speeches and participated in an open dialogue with women policymakers and stakeholders under the theme “Girls’ Voices Influence Policy”.

The multi-stakeholder gathering aimed to enhance girls’ involvement in policy-making and decision-making processes that safeguard their rights.

Organizers emphasized that the initiative represents a meaningful step toward empowering girls as leaders and solution-makers, shifting societal attitudes, and driving policy reform.

The conference received support from the General Authority of Child and Family Development Protection and the Office of the Governor of the capital city.

The “Because I Am a Girl” campaign, which launched in 2007, continues to operate in over 70 countries worldwide. Its initiatives span education, prevention of gender-based violence, and leadership development for girls, reinforcing its global commitment to gender equality and youth empowerment.
