Ulaanbaatar, October 8, 2025 /MONTSAME/. President of Mongolia Ukhnaa Khurelsukh issued a decree to confer state orders and medals upon the 14th rotation of the Mongolian military contingent serving in the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan.

Remaining true to their oath, the peacekeepers have demonstrated courage, endurance, resourcefulness, and professionalism while honorably fulfilling their duties in the cause of global peace and security. On behalf of the State and the people of Mongolia, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Mongolian Armed Forces, Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, expressed his gratitude to the peacekeepers.

In 2024, the contingent successfully carried out its mission to protect civilians in South Sudan, ensure the safety of UN bases and personnel, and support humanitarian operations under difficult weather and challenging conditions.

In particular, it was highlighted that during the armed conflicts in Unity State, South Sudan, in April and May of 2025, Mongolian peacekeepers ensured the full protection and safety of around 1,500 civilians and UN staff, while organizing high-level security for a convoy of approximately 800 refugees.

President Khurelsukh underscored that the dedication and valor of thousands of Mongolian peacekeepers in proudly upholding the name of the “Mongol Soldier” have greatly contributed to enhancing Mongolia’s international reputation and strengthening the nation’s security and defense policy.

He also extended his heartfelt appreciation to the families of peacekeepers, who provide steadfast support on the home front and bear the weight of raising children and maintaining their households, wishing them happiness and continued success.

With this ratio, Mongolia ranks 19th among 121 troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping operations. Notably, for the first time, a Mongolian general is serving as Force Commander in the UN Peacekeeping Force in the Republic of Cyprus.

The reputation of Mongolian soldiers continues to grow each year, and the country’s policy to expand participation, leadership roles, and female representation in UN peacekeeping missions has been yielding significant results.

Mongolia first deployed two military observers to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2002, and since then, more than 22,000 Mongolian military personnel have participated in UN peacekeeping operations.
