Art & Culture
Ulaanbaatar, December 3, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Buryat Cultural Heritage Museum, an institution dedicated specifically to the study and preservation of Buryat ethnic heritage, is now operating in Dashbalbar soum of Dornod aimag. The museum was inaugurated in the summer of 2024 ahead of the soum’s centennial anniversary and aspires to become a global center for the cultural legacy of Buryat communities across different countries.
The
collection of nearly 700 exhibits includes archaeological artifacts,
traditional household items preserved by Buryat families, and artworks by
artists originating from Dashbalbar soum, including original pieces by People’s
Artist Odon Geleg, painter Mels Purev, and photographer Battseren Bazarsad.
Outside
the building, the museum features a unique architectural element depicting the
flags and symbols of the 11 Buryat clans. The project was designed by N.
Choibalsan, an Honored Builder of Mongolia and native of the soum, and
constructed by Eltruud LLC with financing from the soum’s Local Development
Fund.
The
facility is a three-story structure with a basement and an effective floor area
of about 1,300 square meters. The first floor houses a library, while the main
museum exhibitions occupy the second floor.
