Ambassador to Macedonia presents credentials
Non-resident ambassador of Mongolia to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr D.Batsaikhan presented the letter of credence to the President of Macedonia, Mr Gjorge Ivanov on May 30. Afterwards, during the meeting, the Ambassador conveyed greetings of Mongolian President Ts.Elbegdorj to Mr Ivanov.

Deputy FM B.Battsetseg works in France
Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg paid a working visit to France. On the sidelines, she attended the Women and Green Growth international business forum and the Women of the Year award ceremony on May 27. The business forum was organized for the sixth time, with a main objective to increase contribution of women to economic growth and social development of Mongolia and establishing businesswomen’s network all around Europe. The above events attracted more than 200 delegates coming from Mongolia, France, UK, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Luxembourg, USA, Austria, Netherlands, Denmark and New Zealand.
Parties launch election campaigns
The presidential election campaigns officially opened this morning. The election is to take place on June 26. Three presidential candidates are Chairman of the Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) M.Enkhbold, former MP Kh.Battulga from the Democratic Party and former MP S.Ganbaatar from the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party.
Tour professionals call for equality in services for both national and int'l travelers
“Ulaanbaatar 2017” national tourism exhibition was held on June 3 and 4 at Sukhbaatar Square. It was organized in an effort to boost domestic tourism. Although officials say it is impossible to count the number of domestic tourists, an unofficial source told us that over 200 thousand Mongolians entered the specially protected areas last year.
B.Altangerel brings Mongolia’s first gold medal from World Powerlifting Championships
Mongolian powerlifter B.Altangerel (120- kg) won a gold medal in the World Championships of Powerlifting by bench-pressing 352.5 kilograms. The championships took place in Lithuania between May 22 and 27, challenging participants in teenage, junior, senior and master’s categories.
Indian USD 1 billion loan may be spent on infrastructure development of Mongolia
Prime Minister J.Erdenebat met with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi during his attendance in the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2017 on June 2. The Mongolian PM informed that the Mongolian side is interested in dedicating the USD 1.0 billion soft loan from India to promoting infrastructure development, instead of financing railway projects as agreed previously.

Parliament ratifies IDA financing program of USD 79 million
On June 2, the State Great Khural (parliament) adopted the bill on ratification of the General Program of Financing, signed by the Government of Mongolia, the World Bank and International Development Association (IDA).

108 moms awarded with "Glorious Mother” order
The First and Second “Glory of Mother” Orders were bestowed upon 108 mothers today, June 1, the International Day for Protection of Children’s Right. The Orders were handed by the President of Mongolia, Mr Ts.Elbegdorj. According to the law, the mothers, who gave birth to and raised four or more children are awarded the order.
Mongolia's population is getting younger each year
The initiative to observe the first day of June as an International Day of protecting children's rights first came up as one of the results of the 1925 Assembly of the League of Nations, held in Geneva. Mongolia joined the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1990 as its fifth member. The International Children's Day is observed every year since June 1 of 1952 in Mongolia. Children under age of 18 constituted 34.6 percent (one million 79 thousand 730 children) of the total population of Mongolia by the end of 2016, making it a very "young" nation. A total of 79,382 babies were born last year, according to the National Statistics Office.

Minister for Education J.Batsuuri dismissed
During the plenary meeting of Parliament, convened today, May 31, Member of Parliament Yo.Baatarbileg presented the affiliated Standing committee’s conclusion on the issue of dismissing Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports J.Batsuuri. The latter is being condemned for unsatisfactory observance of responsibilities of administering the educational sector, and policy-making and law implementing duties.
Cabinet meeting in brief
Cabinet of ministers convened for regular meeting on Tuesday, May 30. Ministers P.Gankhuu and Ts.Dashdorj, and Executive Director of Erdenes Mongol Ts.Tumentsogt were tasked to build sufficient reserve of diesel fuel and petrol to ensure preparedness for the wintering at Baganuur and Shivee Ovoo mines, to organize the stripping and overhaul maintenance works in a timely manner and focus on maintaining proper amount of coal reserve of the country.
Project to Climate Proof Forest Resources kicks off with workshop
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Mongolia today kicked off a USD 500,000 capacity development technical assistance project to increase the resilience of Mongolian forest ecosystems to climate change with an inception workshop. In attendance were M. Tungalag, Director for Department of Forest Policy and Coordination, MET, and Satomi Yoshini of the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

Speaker M.Enkhbold congratulates Hakuho for 38th win
Speaker of Mongolian Parliament M.Enkhbold received today, May 30, the 69th Yokozuna (Grand Champion) of Japanese professional sumo M.Davaajargal and congratulated him on the 38th win in a bimonthly competition of the highest division of sumo. Mr Enkhbold then wished him many more years of success on the round ring of professional sumo.
Final stage of project on mother and child’s health launched
"Innovation in maternal and newborn health services, Mongolia: from pilot to Institutionalization”, the exit phase of the Telemedicine project was launched today, May 29. The project has been under realization since 2007 with support of UN Population Fund and the Government of Luxembourg.
