World Bank approves Second Energy Project to energy distribution capacity of Mongolia
In the context of rapidly growing energy demands, a new project will support Mongolia’s efforts to improve the reliability and sustainability of electricity services. The Second Energy Sector Project, approved yesterday by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors, will contribute USD 54.4 million in financing to help the government of Mongolia address key bottlenecks in select electricity distribution companies by upgrading aging assets and expanding distribution capacity. The project will also support the development of solar power.
Prime Minister receives leaders of commerce chambers of China and Russia
The 13th General Economic Forum of Mongolia, Russia and China commenced on June 15 at Tuushin Hotel of Ulaanbaatar. On the sidelines, Prime Minister J.Erdenebat received President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation S.N.Katyrin and Vice Chairman of the China Council of the Promotion of International Trade Wang Jinzhen.
Program for homeless launched in Khan-Uul district
Authorities of Khan-Uul districts of Ulaanbaatar have launched a program called “A road back home” toward helping homeless people. A day-event has been organized in frames of the program, to which 96 people came.
N.Tsevegnyam becomes first Mongolian owner of professional sumo stable
One of the pioneers of Mongolian sumo wrestlers Kyokutenho, whose original name is N.Tsevegnyam, 42, is the first among Mongolians to become an oyokata, which means an owner of stable of Japanese professional sumo.
FM Ts.Munkh-Orgil discusses inter-parliamentary cooperation with US Congress members
On the sidelines of his visit to the US, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Ts.Munkh-Orgil held meetings with members of the United States Congress to discuss bilateral ties and cooperation, especially, between the legislative bodies. While underlining that inter-parliamentary interactions have been making great contributions to Mongolia-US relations, the Foreign Minister extended thanks to the US Congress for passing a number of resolutions in support of Mongolia.
Flight ticket price might be cut by 20-40 percent
Price of flight tickets can be reduced by 20-40 percent, said the officials during a press conference held yesterday, June 13, by the Ministry of Road and Transport Development, the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Hunnu Air and Aero Mongolia Companies.
Balance of payment deficit rises
Current and capital account balance resulted in deficit of USD 157.0 million in the first quarter of 2017 and increased by USD 6.1 million compared to the same period of last year. Current account saw deficit of USD 171.3 million, which was mainly due to deficit amounted to USD 372.0 million in services account and USD 256.4 million in primary account. Nevertheless, goods account surplus reached USD 418.4 million.
Master budget deficit reaches MNT 412.5 billion
In the first five months of 2017, total equilibrated revenue and grants of the General Government Budget amounted to MNT 2,666.6 billion and total expenditure and net lending amounted to MNT 3,079.1 billion, representing a deficit of MNT 412.5 billion.
Foreign trade surplus increases
In the first five months of 2017, Mongolia traded with 133 countries and total trade turnover reached USD 4,016.2 million, of which USD 2518.5 million were made up by exports and USD 1497.7 million, by imports. Total foreign trade turnover increased by USD 1.1 billion, in which, exports increased by USD 744.3 million and imports, by USD 325.7 million, compared to the same period of 2016.
Parliament ratifies amendments to China’s USD 1 billion loan agreement
The State Great Khural (Parliament) approved and ratified the amendments to the General Agreement on Soft Loan signed by the Government of Mongolia and the Export-Import Bank of China on June 9.

Temporary thunderstorms are expected in central aimags on June 14, eastern aimags on June 15, central and eastern aimags on June 16, in some parts of western and central aimags and in most parts of eastern aimags on June 17. Winds will get stronger, reaching 6-11 m/sec, and 16-18 m/sec before the thunderstorms.
Mongolian scouts invite volunteers for Asia-Pacific Jamboree
The 31st Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Jamboree is going to take place in Mongolia between July 27 and August 2. This year’s motto will be “Go Nomad!”. The 2017 APR Jamboree is gathering about 6,000 kids from more than 50 countries. The jamboree is being carried out from one station to another. The first station will be a Nomadic Culture Complex for international participants to get familiar with the nomadic lifestyle and traditions. The next one will be an Adventure Complex, challenging the scouts’ bravery and teamwork skills.
JCI Mongolia hosts Asia-Pacific regional meeting with success
Mongolia hosted the Junior Chamber International (JCI)’s Asia-Pacific Conference 2017 at home with success. In the course of four days between June 8 and 11, over 3,500 young people from 51 countries have attended a total of 81 side events. The events much deserving of highlights included the “Welcome to Mongolia” event, the Business Forum, opening ceremony for the JCI Garden and the JCI Impact awards.
Naadam preparations with 60 percent completion
For preparation to the biggest national holidays of Mongolia – Naadam, running tracks of the Central stadium are being improved and parking spaces and roads outside the stadium are being expanded. Numbers of lightings and seats are being increased.

Winds will get stronger in Altai Mountains and in front valley of Arts Bogd Mountain on June 11, in western half of the territory on June 12, in some regions on June 13, in the Gobi and steppes on June 14, reaching 18-20 m/sec.

Herdsman-turned-photographer wants everyone to adore Mongolia
A photographer and livestock herder S.Tsengelbayar from Xilingol League of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China is the first Inner Mongolian photographer to ever throw an independent exhibition in Mongolia. S.Tsengelbayar named his exhibition, opened in Gamma Gallery in Hunnu Mall of Ulaanbaatar, “I am a Mongolian”. The exhibition wrapped up on June 7.

Cabinet of Ministers convened for a regular meeting on June 8. The outcomes of the Prime Minister’s visit to China, took place on May 11-15, was discussed and resolved to be submitted to the National Security Council.
JCI Asia-Pacific Conference opening in Ulaanbaatar
3,500 young leaders and business people from 51 countries are arriving in Ulaanbaatar to participate in the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Asia-Pacific Conference 2017, which will take place between June 8 and 11. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a press conference today in collaboration with JCI. “The Ministry has been assisting in organizations concerning the visa issuance and diplomatic reception. It can be said that the preparation is complete. This conference is of great significance for Mongolia as it is creating great networking opportunities”, said Deputy Foreign Minister B.Battsetseg.
