World Bank approves Second Energy Project to energy distribution capacity of Mongolia
In the context of rapidly growing energy demands, a new project will support Mongolia’s efforts to improve the reliability and sustainability of electricity services. The Second Energy Sector Project, approved yesterday by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors, will contribute USD 54.4 million in financing to help the government of Mongolia address key bottlenecks in select electricity distribution companies by upgrading aging assets and expanding distribution capacity. The project will also support the development of solar power.

Balance of payment deficit rises
Current and capital account balance resulted in deficit of USD 157.0 million in the first quarter of 2017 and increased by USD 6.1 million compared to the same period of last year. Current account saw deficit of USD 171.3 million, which was mainly due to deficit amounted to USD 372.0 million in services account and USD 256.4 million in primary account. Nevertheless, goods account surplus reached USD 418.4 million.

Master budget deficit reaches MNT 412.5 billion
In the first five months of 2017, total equilibrated revenue and grants of the General Government Budget amounted to MNT 2,666.6 billion and total expenditure and net lending amounted to MNT 3,079.1 billion, representing a deficit of MNT 412.5 billion.

Foreign trade surplus increases
In the first five months of 2017, Mongolia traded with 133 countries and total trade turnover reached USD 4,016.2 million, of which USD 2518.5 million were made up by exports and USD 1497.7 million, by imports. Total foreign trade turnover increased by USD 1.1 billion, in which, exports increased by USD 744.3 million and imports, by USD 325.7 million, compared to the same period of 2016.

Mongolian scouts invite volunteers for Asia-Pacific Jamboree
The 31st Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Jamboree is going to take place in Mongolia between July 27 and August 2. This year’s motto will be “Go Nomad!”. The 2017 APR Jamboree is gathering about 6,000 kids from more than 50 countries. The jamboree is being carried out from one station to another. The first station will be a Nomadic Culture Complex for international participants to get familiar with the nomadic lifestyle and traditions. The next one will be an Adventure Complex, challenging the scouts’ bravery and teamwork skills.

JCI Mongolia hosts Asia-Pacific regional meeting with success
Mongolia hosted the Junior Chamber International (JCI)’s Asia-Pacific Conference 2017 at home with success. In the course of four days between June 8 and 11, over 3,500 young people from 51 countries have attended a total of 81 side events. The events much deserving of highlights included the “Welcome to Mongolia” event, the Business Forum, opening ceremony for the JCI Garden and the JCI Impact awards.
