Bay Horse Trained by B. Gantig Wins National Naadam’s Khyazaalan Race

Ulaanbaatar, July 10, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The national horse racing competitions of the National Naadam Festival, marking the 2234th anniversary of the establishment of Mongolian Statehood, the 819th anniversary of the Great Mongol Empire, the 114th anniversary of the Restoration of National Freedom and Independence, and the 104th anniversary of the People’s Revolution of Mongolia, officially commenced today.


Traditionally, the racing begins with Khyazaalan (four-year-old horse) racing. This year, 256 horses were registered for the race, and 195 met the official standards and started the race. However, 61 horses were disqualified due to withers height restrictions.


The winning horse was a bay khyazaalan owned by President of the “Shunkhlai” Group, Batsaikhan Purev, from Khujirt soum of Uvurkhangai aimag. The horse was trained by B. Gantig. The runner-up was a dark grey khyazaalan trained by D. Lkhagvasuren from Chandmani soum of Khovd aimag. Third place went to a grey khyazaalan trained by Ts. Enkhbold from Chuluut soum of Arkhangai aimag.


The fourth-place finisher was a chestnut horse trained by B. Gantulga from Gobi-Altai aimag, and fifth was a black khyazaalan trained by A. Naranbaatar from Baruun-Urt soum of Sukhbaatar aimag. The results brought joy and pride to the trainers, child jockeys, and festivalgoers alike.
