Construction and Major Maintenance in Mongolia Amount to MNT 1.4 Trillion

Ulaanbaatar, May 9, 2025 /MONTSAME/. According to preliminary results of the first quarter of 2025, construction and major maintenance in Mongolia reached MNT 1.4 trillion, of which MNT 1.3 trillion were completed by domestic construction enterprises and MNT 79.2 billion were completed by foreign enterprises.
In the preliminary results of the first three months of this year, construction and major maintenance completed by domestic construction enterprises increased by MNT 2.8 billion, compared to the same period in 2024. On the other hand, construction and major maintenance works performed by joint construction organizations with international partners amounted to MNT 3.1 billion, a decrease of MNT 1.5 billion compared to the same period in 2024.
In the first quarter of this year, the share of the total works carried out by domestic enterprises was as follows:
- Residential buildings accounted for 48.0 percent;
- Non-residential buildings- 40.4 percent;
- Engineering construction- 9.4 percent;
- Construction and major maintenance- 2.2 percent.
This is an increase of 5.6 percentage points in residential building works and 1.1 percentage points in major maintenance, compared to the same period last year. However, engineering construction works decreased by 6.5 percentage points, whereas non-residential construction fell by 0.1 percentage points.
According to preliminary results of the first quarter of this year, non-residential building works amounted to MNT 547.1 billion, an increase of MNT 19.7 billion compared to the same period in 2024. Moreover:
- Educational and cultural buildings grew by MNT 31.8 billion;
- Hospital buildings increased by MNT 12.3 billion;
- Non-residential buildings rose by MNT 11.6 billion;
- Commercial and service buildings grew by MNT 10.0 billion;
- Industrial buildings declined by MNT 46.0 billion.
Construction and major maintenance completed in Ulaanbaatar City amounted to MNT 795.7 billion, or 62.4 percent of the total works carried out in the country, an increase of 3.3 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
Completion of construction and major maintenance by aimags:
- Umnugobi aimag- MNT 196.6 billion;
- Orkhon aimag- MNT 65.2 billion;
- Darkhan-Uul aimag- MNT 47.0 billion. These stand for 64.4 percent of the total construction and major maintenance of all aimags.
In the first quarter of 2025, Oyu-Tolgoi underground mine and construction work in Umnugobi aimag, building expansion work on the Erdenet plant in Orkhon aimag, and residential work in Darkhan-Uul aimag were intensified.
Construction and capital repairs: Economic activities directed to the creation, renovation, repair, or extension of fixed assets in the form of buildings, land improvements of an engineering nature, and other constructions such as roads, bridges, dams, etc.
Residential building: Construction of at least half is used for residential purposes.
Non-residential buildings: Minor parts of the building(less than half of the area) are used for dwelling purposes.
General engineering construction: All construction works not classified under building construction, including construction of railways, roads, bridges, highways, airports, water supplies, sewages, dams, irrigation, etc.
