Respect paid to Tortoise Monument

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On October 28, on the occasion of the 380th anniversary of Mongolia’s capital, Ulaanbaatar, previous and current authorities and citizens of the capital city paid homage to the Tortoise Monument, which was erected in honor of the founding of the city.
The capital city was founded in 1639, when the High Saint Zanabazar was declared the leader of Mongolia’s Lamaism and his Orgoo (Palace) was built. Ulaanbaatar changed its location 28 times and settled at its present location back in 1778 and to mark this event, the Government of Mongolia erected the Tortoise Monument near Sukhbaatar square in 1994.
In his remarks at the event, Head of Ulaanbaatar city council R.Dagva said, “We mark this day as a day to plan and review our activities while carrying out numerous works for the prosperity and development of our city and organizing cultural events for our citizens with their help and in line with their interests. In accordance with the presidential decree on the promotion of the horse head fiddle, long song, and the Secret History of Mongols, authorities of the capital city celebrates the birthday of Ulaanbaatar by honoring the Secret History and playing horse head fiddle.”
