About 61 million livestocks to be overwintered
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry P.Sergelen made a statement at a meeting of the State Emergency Commission, held today. He noted the soums’s emergency reserves of hay and fodder were formed with 50.7 percent completion this autumn, which is unsatisfactory for the expectedly harsh winter. The financing for emergency reserves is not available, he added.
Mongolia numbers a total of 153.1 thousand herding households with 60.8 million domestic animals for overwintering. According to a survey on pasture carrying capacity, 80 percent of the total territory of Mongolia has enough capacity to graze the livestock, whereas 20 percent fails. Therefore, 16460 herding households have to move to other lands with better conditions to overwinter their animals totaling 6.9 animals.
