Ulaanbaatar, June 27, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The 9th Worldwide Network for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (WBMT) Workshop is being held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in cooperation with the First Central Hospital of Mongolia, on June 26-28, 2025.
Held every two years to support member countries, the three-day conference aimed at exchanging knowledge on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation as a definitive treatment for severe and growing diseases, as well as discussing the advanced diagnostic and treatment methods, technologies, and innovations. The 2025 Workshop, coinciding with the centennial of the First Central Hospital of Mongolia, brings together more than 50 leading scientists and researchers from over 30 countries, including the United States of America, Japan, the Federal Republic of Germany, the People's Republic of China, and the United Kingdom.
Mongolia introduced autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation in 2014, with 37 patients treated to date. Additionally, Mongolia plans to expand stem cell transplantation to pediatric patients, with ongoing training for specialists. Additionally, legal frameworks to collect stem cells from sources such as bone marrow and umbilical cord blood have been proposed in the draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Donors.
