MONTSAME Set to Welcome Korean-language to its Editorial
Society
Ulaanbaatar, November 28, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On November 28, 2025, Director General of MONTSAME Mongolian National News Agency Enkh-Orshikh Khurelee and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Choi Jin-won signed Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Korean-language editorial desk at MONTSAME.
MONTSAME has long been at the forefront of promoting Mongolia to international audiences while delivering global news to Mongolian readers every day. The agency currently publishes in five languages in addition to Mongolian— these are traditional Mongolian script, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and English—and each language desk produces its own weekly newspaper, including Khumuun Bichig, Novosti Mongolii, Menggu Xiao Xibao, Mongoru Tsushin, and The Mongol Messenger, along with the quarterly English-language magazine Mongolia Today. Now, the news agency is preparing to welcome Korean as its sixth language section.
on this occassion Director General Enkh-Orshikh said,
“Today we have signed and formalized the foundational legal document to
establish a Korean-language editorial desk within the 104-year-old National
News Agency of Mongolia. This initiative has been actively discussed in recent
years and is being implemented in commemoration of the 35th anniversary of
diplomatic relations between our two countries. Media cooperation and the
exchange of information between citizens play a significant role in
strengthening the Strategic Partnership between Mongolia and the Republic of
Korea. It is also gratifying to recall that, after Mongolia transitioned to a
market economy and the opening of its foreign relations in 1990, Mongolia first
established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Korea. We believe that
our joint project will serve as a ‘bridge’ for the expanding economic and
political ties between the two countries, and will contribute to deepening
mutual understanding between our peoples.”
Ambassador Choi Jin-won underscored
that translating and publishing the news in Korean will contribute to
strengthening bilateral relations, cooperation, and mutual understanding. Ambassador further noted, “As people-to-people ties and economic cooperation
between the two countries continue to grow, the need for accurate information
about Mongolia in the Korean language is increasing. Therefore, we will support
the development of a Korean-language website and newspaper to an appropriate
extent, after which MONTSAME Agency will continue the initiative independently in 2027, based on its budget and capacity. Both sides will work together to
ensure the accuracy and reliability of all published content.”
Reporters of the agency work not only in the Capital city but also across all twenty-one aimags, fulfilling their mandate to promote the country abroad and provide accurate, factual information. As a member of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA), MONTSAME regularly exchanges information with fellow member agencies and supplies daily updates on events in Mongolia to the OANA news database.
Furthermore, MONTSAME maintains cooperation agreements and daily news exchanges with TASS and RT of Russia, Xinhua of China, Yonhap of the Republic of Korea, VNA of Vietnam, Prensa Latina of Cuba, Kyodo News of Japan, PAP of Poland, BTA of Bulgaria, Anadolu of Türkiye, Azertac of Azerbaijan, Kazinform of Kazakhstan, IRNA of Iran, ANSA of Italy, Diplomat World of Belgium, UzA of Uzbekistan, and KCNA of the DPRK, among others. The agencies also conduct annual exchanges of journalists and technical staff to share professional experience.
