Memorandum of Cooperation Signed between UNDP and Ulaanbaatar

Ulaanbaatar, November 28, 2023 /MONTSAME/. Deputy Governor of the Governor’s Office of Ulaanbaatar City in charge of the Social Sector, Green Development, and Air and Environmental Pollution O. Nominchimeg met with the UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia Matilda Dimovska on November 29, 2023. The two sides signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Governor’s Office of the Ulaanbaatar City and UNDP in Mongolia.  


Under the Memorandum, the two parties will cooperate to undertake projects and programs to reduce air pollution, increase the use of renewable energy, enhance people's ability to adapt to climate change, and ensure gender equality. In particular, the Memorandum aims to introduce environmentally friendly technological solutions by supporting female-headed households, implementing renewable energy-based heating solutions for households in the Ger district of Ulaanbaatar City, and developing a national carbon market system and regulation. 


“To address the pressing issue of air pollution in Ulaanbaatar, we must prioritize the increased use of clean energy sources. By collaborating effectively, we can initiate a comprehensive transition to renewable energy at policy and implementation levels,” noted Deputy Governor Nominchimeg. 


Resident Representative Matilda Dimovska expressed her commitment to focusing on Mongolia's renewable energy transition, emphasizing the goal of reaching everyone to ensure equal access. She continued, “We are also placing special attention on supporting and empowering female-headed households in the capital city.”
