102 Wrestlers Holding National Titles to Compete in National Naadam Wrestling Tournament

Ulaanbaatar, July 10, 2025 /MONTSAME/. A total of 512 wrestlers, including 102 holders of national titles, have registered to compete in the Wrestling Tournament of the National Naadam Festival, which marking the 2234th anniversary of the establishment of Mongolian Statehood, the 819th anniversary of the Great Mongol Empire, and the 114th anniversary of the Restoration of National Freedom and Independence and the 104th anniversary of the People’s Revolution of Mongolia.
The tournament will feature 1 State Grand Champion (Darkhan Avarga), 4 State Champions (Ulsyn Avarga), 8 State Lion's (Arslan), 6 State Garuda, 14 State Elephants (Zaan), 21 State Hawks (Khartsaga), and 48 State Falcons (Nachin), amounting to 102 wrestlers with national titles. In addition, 125 aimag and military level lions, 29 elephants, 18 hawks, 72 falcons, 102 soum-level elephants, 15 soum-level falcons, and 49 young wrestlers are set to compete.
Among the competitors, the most senior wrestler is State Lion D. Munkh-Erdene. State Lion Do. Gankhuyag, State Elephant Ts. Myagmarsuren, and State Hawk Sh. Ulambayar will also compete in this year’s Naadam tournament. The first and second rounds of the wrestling matches will take place tomorrow, while rounds 3 through 9 will be held on July 12, during which new titleholders will be declared.
Wrestling fans and spectators have named State Grand Champion N. Batsuuri, State Champions O. Khangai and P. Burentugs, State Lions B. Orkhonbayar, State Elephant B. Bat-Ulzii, State Falcon E. Batmagnai, and Sharp Lion Aimag N. Usukhbayar as the top contenders for this year’s Naadam championship.
Notably, State Grand Champions G. Usukhbayar and A. Sukhbat will not compete this year, marking the official retirement among the group of wrestlers fondly known to the public as the “Six Young Elephants,” thus becoming part of wrestling history.
