Their Majesties the Emperor and the Empress of Japan Visit Gandantegchenling Monastery

Ulaanbaatar, July 10, 2025 /MONTSAME/. At the invitation of the President of Mongolia, Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, His Majesty Emperor  Naruhito and Her Majesty Empress Masako of Japan are paying a State Visit to Mongolia. Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan visited the Gandantegchenling Monastery, the Centre of Mongolian Buddhists, in Ulaanbaatar on July 10, 2025.


The distinguished guests were warmly welcomed by the Chief Khamba Lama of Ganadantegchenling Monastery Geshe Lharampa Javzandorj Dulamragchaa. The Chief Khamba Lama provided a detailed introduction to the rich cultural heritage of Mongolia.


Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako paid their respects to the revered statue of the Maitreya Buddha, known in Mongolia as Megjid Janraisig, which holds deep spiritual significance for the Mongolian people. Their Majesties also visited the Battsagaan, the main assembly hall and  Ochirdari Temples within the Monastery.


To honor the royal guests, the Ganadanthegchenling Monastery presented tsam dance, the intricate fusion of Buddhist ritual and cultural art.
