Ulaanbaatar, July 1, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Mongolia hosted the 2025 High-Level Policy Dialogue in East Asia under the theme “Fostering an AI-Enabled Higher Education Ecosystem” on June 30, 2025.

The High-Level Policy Dialogue in East Asia aims to further facilitate the integration of artificial intelligence technology into higher education in the region and to contribute to the implementation of UNESCO’s Roadmap to 2030 for Higher Education, titled “Beyond Limits: New Ways to Reinvent Higher Education as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4.

Director of UNESCO-ICHEI Jin Li highlighted, Artificial intelligence technology has begun to gain momentum in the education sector. When using this technology in East Asian higher education, we must consider not only its advantages but also the challenges and reflect these issues in decision-making. It is necessary to address matters of personal privacy and national data security. UNESCO is pursuing a systematic, comprehensive, policy in integrating artificial intelligence into higher education. One of the best practices is the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI) based in Shenzhen, which is carrying out well-organized activities to integrate artificial intelligence into higher education. Through short-term certificate online training, the Center has started preparing AI-capable human resources for the higher education sector and has trained representatives from 120 universities and over 450 teachers from Asian regional countries. This is the most effective action to strengthen AI-enabled education.”

During the regional conference, representatives of regional international organizations, scholars, sector experts, and enterprises discussed the opportunities and challenges that AI technology brings to local higher education systems, analyzing concrete needs and challenges and sharing views on future promising opportunities for using artificial intelligence in higher education. Officials emphasized that this activity will serve as a bridge to develop cross-sector, research-based multilateral cooperation.
