Foreign Ministers of Mongolia and the Republic of Kazakhstan Hold Official Talks

Ulaanbaatar, June 27, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Battsetseg Batmunkh and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu held official talks on June 26, 2025.
During the talks, the parties reviewed the implementation of agreements reached by the Heads of State of the two countries and outlined priorities for further expanding the Mongolia-Kazakhstan Strategic Partnership. Minister Murat Nurtleu expressed sincere gratitude for the warm welcome, noting that this is the first official visit by a Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Mongolia in nearly 20 years since 2006.
The Ministers agreed to regularize high-level talks and reciprocal visits, consultative meetings between Foreign Affairs Ministers, and consular meetings. Highlighting the importance of intensifying cooperation in all sectors, including transportation, agriculture, light industry, tourism, culture, and education, the parties exchanged views on possibilities to diversify trade and implement joint projects and programs in the agricultural sector, targeting the goal of increasing bilateral trade to USD 500 million. They also agreed to support the study and implementation of a joint project that would serve as a symbol of bilateral relations, based on rich sources and potential in the leather, wool, and cashmere production of Mongolia.
Minister Murat Nurtleu emphasized the importance of training young professionals in information technology for further development of the cooperation, stressing that Kazakhstan is ranked 24th globally in information technology. The Minister also expressed Kazakhstan’s readiness to support and provide scholarships to Mongolian youth, particularly those from rural areas, to study information technology and engineering, and willingness to develop long-term effective cooperation in this field.
The sides agreed to cooperate in addressing challenges in the transport sector and establishing new and shortened transport and logistics routes through bilateral and multilateral legal mechanisms. Therefore, the parties also agreed to convene a regular meeting of the Mongolia-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Science, Technological, and Cultural Cooperation by 2025.
In addition, the two sides confirmed their intention to continue the cooperation in the environment sector, aligning the “Billions of Trees” National Movement, initiated by the President of Mongolia, with the “Two Billion Trees” project, initiated by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The parties reiterated their commitment to expanding and strengthening cooperation within the United Nations and other international organizations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia reported.
