Ulaanbaatar, July 9, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister of Mongolia Zandanshatar Gombojav held a virtual meeting with the Governors of aimags, soums, and districts.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister outlined the country’s current situation, stressing that in the face of complex internal and external challenges, the government must lead the implementation of austerity measures. Noting that regional and rural development, once neglected, has now been elevated to a new level, the Premier stated that the Government will work in unified coordination with rural administrations. Prime Minister Zandanshatar highlighted the Government’s plan to revoke existing rules and regulations that restrict the authority of local Governors and to implement a package of measures aimed at expanding their power.

The Governors of aimags and soums proposed a number of key issues for consideration, including maintaining the current budget allocation for the Local Development Fund in the amended state budget, paying special attention to the issuance of mining and exploration licenses, resolving financing for stalled school, kindergarten, and hospital projects, revising regulations on the Cooperative Development Fund, and reviewing the Law on Public Procurement.

The Prime Minister instructed relevant ministers to thoroughly review each proposal put by local Governors and to provide clear guidance. The Premier also directed local governors to place special focus on crime prevention, educational programs targeting youth, public awareness, and accelerate the rollout of digital education systems.

Moreover, Prime Minister Zandanshatar urged the Governors to take comprehensive actions to mitigate risks and prevent disasters, such as wildfires in drought-affected areas, outbreaks of zoonotic and infectious diseases, to strengthen immunization campaign against measles, enhance emergency preparedness in rural hospitals, prevent road accidents, and ensure the stockpiling of animal feed and fodder. As part of the implementation of the State Austerity Law, the Government will collect proposals from local governors within this month and work to clarify specific provisions of the law.
