President of Mongolia Receives UN Resident Coordinator in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, May 22, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On May 21, 2025, President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa received United Nations Resident Coordinator in Mongolia Jaap van Hierden. 

At the meeting, President Khurelsukh extended congratulations to Mr. Jaap van Hierden on his appointment and expressed confidence that the Resident Coordinator will work actively to further expand cooperation between Mongolia and the United Nations. The Head of State expressed appreciation for the UN’s consistent support for Mongolia’s social and economic development and affirmed that Mongolia places great importance on its cooperation with the United Nations. 

UN Resident Coordinator Jaap van Hierden highlighted Mongolia as a country with natural beauty, a rich history, and a peaceful society that demonstrates global leadership in peacekeeping and promoting gender equality. Mr. Jaap van Hierden emphasized that Mongolia is one of the most favorable countries in which to serve as a UN Resident Coordinator. Resident Coordinator Jaap van Hierden commended Mongolia’s active efforts to address global challenges, particularly in environmental protection and climate change, and extended congratulations on the country’s successful bid to host the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in 2026. The Resident Coordinator also expressed the UN’s support for the “Billions of Trees,” “White Gold,” and "Healthy Mongol” National Movements initiated by the President of Mongolia.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed opportunities to synergize Mongolia’s medium and long-term development policies with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and agreed to actively collaborate at all levels.
