WHO supports to strengthen national capacity of injury care

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. As part of WHO support to the Government of Mongolia to prepare the health sector for winter, essential medical equipment and devices for injury medical care worth 395 million MNT for primary and referral care levels were handed over to the National Trauma and Orthopedic Research Center (NTORC). 


Injuries are the fifth leading cause of morbidity and the third leading cause of mortality in Mongolia. Prevention and timely emergency medical care are key, and the injury care capacity needs to be strengthened, especially at primary and secondary levels of health care. 


The handover ceremony was held on 10 February 2021 at the NTORC and were attended by officials led by Dr Ts.Erdembileg, State Secretary of the Ministry of Health, and Dr E.Galbadrakh, Director General of NTORC and WHO Representative to Mongolia Dr Sergey Diorditsa.


Some of the medical and training equipment will be placed at the newly established Clinical Training Unit at the NTORC. This will provide opportunities for doctors, residency doctors and nurses to do practical exercises on various injury care. Medical devices will also be delivered to 95 soum health centers of 4 provinces.
