Deputy Minister of Labor attending ASEM Conference

/MONTSAME/ Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection S.Mungunchimeg is participating in the fourth ASEM
Conference on Global Ageing and Human Rights of Older Persons, being held in
Seoul, the Republic of Korea from October 1 to 2. The conference has sessions
on ‘Anti-discrimination of Older Workers’, ‘Lifelong Education and Up-skilling,
Re-skilling of Workers’, ‘The Fourth Industrial Revolution and Human Rights of Older Persons’, and ‘Toward
Intergenerational Solidarity’.
In her
address to the conference being attended by representatives from public and
private organizations for older persons of the ASEM member countries and
international organizations as well as scholars, Deputy Minister S.Mungunchimeg
reported on the Government’s policies and measures for older persons and its approach
towards employment and social security.
She said
that demographic window is taking place in Mongolia. In 2015, those aged 60 or over
accounted for 6.4 percent of the total population and the percentage is
projected to increase to 11.9 percent in 2030 and 21.1 percent in 2050 and thus
a necessity has arisen to prepare for ageing population by encouraging births, improving
the livelihoods and social protection of the elderly, raising their income, and
supporting their social inclusion, and enhancing infrastructure accessibility.
She then notified that numerous actions for elderly are included in the
Government’s action plan for 2016-2020.
The Deputy
Minister also underlined the country needs to ensure employment to all the
citizens of working age, promote the employment of the elderly and create a
long term assistance system for them, as well as to increase quality and adequacy
of pensions and social benefits for healthy ageing and that these goals are
planned to be reflected in the Long-Term Development Program of Mongolia 2045.
