Mayor of Ulaanbaatar meets WHO delegation

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On June 24, Governor of the capital city and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Amarsaikhan met with delegates led by World Health Organization’s Regional Director for the Western Pacific Dr. Takeshi Kasai who is paying an official visit to Mongolia on June 23-27.
Present at the meeting were Minister of Health D.Sarangerel, Head of the capital city’s Health Department L.Tumurbaatar, Head of the Public Administration Department of the Ministry of Health B.Tsogtbaatar, WHO Country Representative for Mongolia Dr. Sergey Diorditsa and other officials.
The sides exchanged views on the joint activities with WHO, barriers to creating healthy and safe city for the residents and expansion of cooperation.
Mayor S.Amarsaikhan stressed that he is focusing on developing the capital to a citizen-centered, international standard, modern city with healthy and safe living environment, smart planning, and good governance, that can be Asia’s tourism hub. Mentioning that the measures, being taken in this regard within the joint project of WHO, Ministry of Health, and the capital city’s Health Department, are performing adequately well, the Mayor spoke of the goal to reduce air pollution by 40-50 percent in 2019-2020.
During the meeting, Minister D.Sarangerel gave information on
outbreaks of seasonal influenza, influenza-like illness, most common infectious
diseases and tuberculosis and how countermeasures are being delivered. The
sides also talked about improvement in the results of the actions taken within
nation-wide projects and programs and major disease prevention activities as
well as health education of the citizenry.
