Minister Ch.Ulaan attends 42nd session of IFAD Governing Council

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A delegation headed by Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry Ch.Ulaan took part in the 42nd session of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome, Italy on February 14-15.


During the session, Minister Ch.Ulaan met with Daniel Gustafson, Deputy Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Cornelia Richter, Vice President of IFAD and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation. At the meeting, he highlighted that the assistance of IFAD and FAO including the projects and programs for agriculture and animal husbandry sectors of Mongolia since the country’s transformation to market economy were of great significance, and agreed to cooperate in carrying out projects on development of intensive animal farming and improvement of animal health in Mongolia. The sides then confirmed their readiness to lend full support to the successful completion of the Market and Pasture Management Development Project, being implemented by IFAD in 2018-2021.



In Rome, the Minister, as Head of the Mongolian part of the Mongolia-Italy intergovernmental commission held a meeting with Michele Geraci, Head of Italian part of the commission and Undersecretary of State of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, and discussed expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. At this meeting, both sides agreed to pay special attention to accomplishment of the objectives of intensifying partnerships between business people of the two countries and producing value-added final products with raw materials of Mongolia and advanced technologies of Italy. It was decided to hold the third meeting of the Mongolia-Italy intergovernmental commission within the first half of 2019 in Rome.


Moreover, Minister Ch.Ulaan held meetings with Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle, candidate of France and the European Union for the position of FAO Director-General and Levan Davitashvili, Georgia’s candidate for the position.
