of the Cabinet Secretariat of Government G.Zandanshatar worked in Bayankhoshuu,
7th khoroo of Songinokhairkhan district on December 12.
Last spring, Government made
a resolution to ban burning of raw coal for household use in Ulaanbaatar city beginning
from May of next year. In regard, ‘Tavan Tolgoi Tulsh’ LLC was recently established
as a subsidiary of ‘Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi’ JSC for a purpose to produce improved
fuel or ‘coal briquette’. Now, it aims to expand its operation to be capable of
producing 600 thousand tons, which means enough to provide 220 thousand
households of gher area entirely.
“Ultimate solution to get
rid of smog is a housing program. A solution to reduce smog in a short period of time is the use of coal briquette and electric heater. The use of coal briquette is now being
experimented in eight khoroos of Songinokhairkhan district. About 220 thousand
households burn 1.2 million tons of raw coal a year, but it will be replaced
with 600 thousand tons of coal briquette. The figures comparing use of raw coal and coal briquette shows that the
air pollution is likely to be reduced by about 50 percent,” said Mr.
Zandanshatar.
“Moreover, the Cabinet made a decision to use money of the state budget and financial sources of commercial banks for the mortgage loan during its recent meeting. It aims to reduce air and environment pollution. By doing so, annual spending on issuance of eight-percent mortgage loan, which is currently estimated to be MNT300 billion will be increased to MNT500 billion. In addition, loans and grants taken from S.Korea and China will be used on housing program,” he said.
