ADB to help transform two national parks in Mongolia as models for sustainable tourism
On May 28, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved USD38 million in loans to develop ecotourism in Khuvsgul Lake National Park and Onon-Balj National Park to serve as models for economically inclusive development and conservation in Mongolia.

Western ecological research center to be built in Khovd
This year, the Western Ecological Research Center will be established in the Khar Us Lake national park under the Local Development Support project of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports with funding from the Asian Development Bank.

Project on management of waste collection and transport to be implemented in Ulaanbaatar

Waste management issues discussed at the national forum
Ministry of Environment and Tourism organized the national forum on waste management under the theme ‘Transition and solutions to waste-free economy’ on May 7, 2019. Representatives of relevant ministries, private entities, NGOs and local municipal authorities participated in the forum.
624 hectares of forest area allocated to forest unit of Umnugobi aimag
Since 2007, the Greenbelt Plantation Project has been jointly implemented by the Governments of Mongolia and the Republic of Korea to mitigate dust and sandstorms and combat desertification. With the first phase of the project successfully implemented, Mongolian Minister of Environment and Tourism N.Tserenbat, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Mongolia Jeong Jae Nam and the Greenbelt Project's coordinator signed the agreement to transfer the 624 hectares of land, in which are 100 hectares of forest area, 500 hectares of restored saxaul forest and 24 hectares of tree nursery, and its training center to the Local Forest Unit.

Partnership with Denver city to be further developed
At the invitation of the Vice President of Denver Zoological Foundation Graeme Patterson, Governor of Dornogobi aimag T.Enkhtuvshin, Chairman of the Citizens’ Representative Khural of the aimag S.Tumenbayar and officials of Ikh Nart Nature Reserve visited Denver, USA. In partnership with the Denver Zoological Foundation, the Mongolian Academy of Sciences has been implementing a long-term project at the nature reserve since 2001.
Seminar on biodiversity and biosafety takes place
In partnership with the EU Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centers of Excellence Initiative, the National Committee on Biosafety at the Ministry of Environment and Tourism has been implementing the P53 regional project on organizing profession training to upgrade legal environment of the national law on biosafety and bioprotection in Central Asian countries since 2017.
